A first visit should feel straightforward. These answers describe a fictional open workshop and give a host a useful starting point for welcoming people with different levels of experience.

Tell the host what would help

Visitors may want a quieter seat, more time to read instructions, or help finding the room. Offer a way to ask before the session and a named person to ask on arrival.

Make room for observation

Watching a demonstration is a valid way to join in. Do not assume every visitor wants to make an object or work at the same speed.

Continue with A clear workbench at closing time.

Can I visit without joining every activity?

Yes. You are welcome to observe, read, or ask the host about a small first step.

How do volunteers prepare the room?

They clear shared surfaces, check the routes through the room, and put essential materials in named places.
